President, Ecological Society of Chile (SOCECOL) (2004-2006)
Desde 1989 hasta el presente, ha liderado el experimento a largo plazo de gran escala de Fray Jorge. En este experimento, investiga la importancia de interacciones bióticas (depredación, competencia interespecífica y herbivoría) y los efectos del fenómeno de El Niño en la comunidad de matorral semiárido de Chile. Su base de datos es una de las más grandes de Sudamérica y única al considerar simultáneamente tres niveles tróficos (plantas – herbívoros – carnívoros).

El premio a la trayectoria lleva el nombre del destacado naturalista chileno, Dr. Patricio Sánchez Reyes (1928-1999), Profesor de la Pontificia Universidad Católica de Chile.
